Their primary task to to help drive customer acquisition initiatives at the lowest cost possible for a company. This role differs from traditional marketing because quite often growth hackers are looking for other avenues than traditional media, advertising, or paid marketing to acquire new customers.
Some of the most successful growth hacking examples have been tech companies using referral programs to create a viral loop and drive massive amounts of sign ups. A great example would be Robinhood, a stock trading app, who had a large waiting list of emails. They growth hacked their signups by allowing people to move up in the line for every person that they also got to sign up. This drove many people to share with their friends and create a viral loop that helped them grow.
